Dear John

Despite the title, I won't really be talking about the movie... or maybe I will, just a little.

If I watched this movie when I was 14 or so, I would have loved it until they dropped the bomb on who Savannah (heroine) married. But I've read I Kissed Dating Goodbye, and that self-help book written by Joshua Harris has opened my eyes, so, so much. I was able to notice how shallow the world's 'love' could be, how there's a big danger in putting your whole life on the line of a person.

The two main-characters started a relationship after just 2 weeks of knowing each other, and this movie tells you that it is possible for that time span to give birth to "something deep."A few years of being apart, and the girl married someone else because she couldn't bear another day of being without the guy. Maybe some of you could related to that or can understand what she felt, yes, but when Christianity comes into the picture, to begin with, that first place in your heart shouldn't be a person, or  an object. It should be God.
And though you do love your spouse very deeply, you can still bear years apart because you still have God. You still have the Being who's first in your life.

I mean, God isn't mean. He doesn't advice us to not put a human first because he wants to torture us by not letting us do what we want, but because He doesn't want us to get hurt. Humans are imperfect, they can't fulfill our deepest longing, our deepest dreams. Only He can. You see, everything God advices us to do, is for our good. Never for our downfall, or to make us suffer.

Okay, going back to the point; I was watching this show, and I was pointed to God, the opposite of how this world is, the perfect answer to everything. To confess honestly, I haven't been touching my bible due to reasons. For about 2-3 weeks, and I've been so dead. Dead as in there was no place for me to go, no place for me to put as my goal. I've been procrastinating in picking up my devotions again, but this movie was the final push for me to decide, yes, only Jesus is the Living Water. Without Him, there's nothing to keep us alive.

A funny thing how a secular movie could lead me to God. XD
